¡Vamos a la Playa! (Let's Go to the Beach!)

One of the first Spanish phrases I learned was "¡Vamos a la playa!" which means "Let's go to the beach!" I have always loved the beach, and recently, we took our beach adventures to a new level by joining a beach club, Club Joya del Pacífico. This was my first time visiting a Central American beach, and I wasn’t quite sure what to expect.

First Impressions

When we arrived, we were pleasantly surprised by how clean and peaceful the beach was. There were hardly any other visitors, making it feel like our own private paradise. The water was pretty clear, and the shoreline was covered with beautiful shells, little crabs, and live sand dollars. We had the beach mostly to ourselves on a random Monday, which made the experience even more relaxing.

The Beach Experience

Unlike some beaches where I love to sit with my feet in the water, I found myself keeping more of a distance here due to the abundance of marine life. However, the experience was still incredible. The waves were rough, and there wasn’t a lifeguard on duty, so safety is something to keep in mind. In the future, we will definitely bring boogie boards to make the most of the waves! The club also has a pool, which was a great option for cooling off while enjoying the sun.

Dining and Amenities

One unique aspect of the club is that you pay a fee if you want to bring in outside food. They have a restaurant where you can order meals, and the prices were reasonable. The food was delicious, but the service was slow, so patience is key. We had our own hut to eat and relax under, which was a fantastic touch. However, since few huts are available, I wonder how busy it gets on weekends.

A coconut vendor pulled up on the beach, offering fresh coconut water and what appeared to be some sort of shaved ice. We tried the coconut water—it wasn’t our favorite taste, but somehow, we drank it all pretty quickly! If you want to buy from these vendors, be sure to bring cash, as they do not accept credit cards.

Extra Perks

The club offers additional amenities such as changing rooms, restrooms, and even massages in a hut for those looking for extra relaxation. We didn’t have cash with us, and while they do accept credit cards, there was an extra fee for using one.

One of the highlights of our visit was trying our first-ever coconut water! We didn’t love the taste at first, but somehow, we drank it all pretty quickly. We also indulged in a mud facial, which was a fun and unique experience.

The Journey

The drive to the beach club took a little over an hour from San Salvador, and traffic was minimal, making the trip smooth. Overall, we had a fantastic time and can’t wait to go back!
