Happy Birthday Alexis!

The older my children get, the harder it is for me to fully enjoy the fact that they are another year old! Oh Alexis, 6 years ago today, I got to hold you in my arms for the first time as a newborn baby! We had the whole medical team there. Uncle Joe and Uncle David waited outside the waiting room door. Daddy of course was with me. We knew you would be on the small side but worried about your health. As soon as you were born you let out a loud cry! I remember a nurse saying something like, "Aint nothing wrong with that little one, she just wanted to be out!'' From that day on you have been a sweet little spirit that has let her opinions be known. And not in a bad way either. I think that's a great skill to have especially since you are my third born! When I held you in my arms I knew right away that you were missing a little buddy in heaven but that is a story for another day. Today I want to let you know that I am so glad that I have the opportunity to be your Mom. You are such a good example to me of Christ like love. You are truly a peacemaker in our home. I love your smile. Even though you are are a Daddy's girl, You will always be my baby girl!

Family Work

Let’s get this party started Are you picturing your last late-night party that you danced the night away? I’m not talking about that kind of party. I’m talking about a family work party. Yes raising a family is hard work. But that’s not what I’m talking about either. In our house, Saturday mornings are typically spent cleaning together and listening to the parents' music of choice. Everyone is cleaning. You could call it mandatory family fun. I say this in jest. Cleaning isn’t my favorite thing to do. In all honesty, when I can afford it I pay someone to help me clean the house. So what’s the point? What are we doing? Do I just want to make my children miserable? No. I know the value of family work. I know that it strengthens my family. It Takes a Village

Faith in Family Life We’ve all heard the African saying, “It takes a village to raise a child. In today's fast-paced world where do we find such a village? Well, the first place to look is our own family. There’s parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. What if we are far from our families? Then we could turn to our neighbors, schools, and communities. What if they do not share our same values and thinking that we wish to teach our children? Many people have turned to their schools with disappointing results. Who then should we turn to? Our church family! We likely share many of the same values with our church family. I am so thankful to be a part of a worldwide church. My husband is a soldier and we often move.
